Lactation Support Visits

Reimbursement for lactation support visits after you've left the hospital vary by health insurance provider. Please contact your insurer or refer to your  benefits package for details. Lactation support coverage for RIte Care members is summarized in the Breastfeeding Insurance Coverage Grids.

Breast Pump Coverage

_To learn about different types of breast pumps, download our Breast Pump Selection Criteria. Specific details related to breast pump coverage change frequently and vary by health insurance provider. Please contact your insurer or refer to your benefits package for details.

Members of RIte Care may be entitled to a manual or electric pump at no cost when their baby is in the NICU, when it is medically necessary, or when a mother returns to work or school, depending on the insurance provider. See the Breastfeeding Insurance Coverage Grids for details. WIC also provides breast pumps for exclusively breastfeeding moms who are returning to work or school and are not covered for a breast pump by their health insurance provider.

RIte Care members can ask about getting a breast pump by contacting their insurers. If breast pumps are a covered benefit, their primary care provider can either write a prescription for a pump or call the health plan’s durable medical equipment (DME) provider directly and request a breast pump for the patient. DME providers for RIte Care members are listed in the Breastfeeding Insurance Coverage Grids.
