Breastfeeding Support

Asking for Help is Normal!

Learning to breastfeed takes time for both you and your baby. Many moms need help learning to breastfeed their babies. Use the resources below to get the help you need. If you wait too long to get help, it may be harder to breastfeed.

Prenatal & Postpartum Support

  • Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes > Hospital and community-based listings.
  • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program > The WIC Program provides breastfeeding education to women prenatally and provides support for breastfeeding mothers. In addition to the WIC nutritionists, many local WIC agencies also have trained Breastfeeding Peer Counselors who work with WIC clients prenatally and for the duration of their breastfeeding experience.
  • Breastfeeding Warm Lines > Hospital "warm line" numbers that breastfeeding mothers may call upon discharge from the hospital should they have questions or concerns about breastfeeding.
  • Outpatient Lactation Services > Includes listings of IBCLCs in Private Practice, Midwife and Physician Specialists, and Hospital-Based Outpatient Services.
  • Postpartum Support Groups/Classes > Listings for hospitals and La Leche League International.
  • Postpartum Depression > Women with symptoms of postpartum depression are strongly encouraged to seek treatment. Use these resources to get the help you need.
